Welcome to the Underground

Underground Book Reviews puts a spotlight on the emerging world of independent and e-publishing, as well as new authors in traditional publishing. By providing quality, in-depth reviews, we at the Underground hope to elevate deserving new authors and erase the boundaries between the traditional and non-traditional publishing worlds.

The Underground is different. Established review sites often won’t touch indie and self-published books. Unfortunately, most indie review sites pump out hundreds of reviews each month with only a brief paragraph and a star ranking. We  only post one quality review each Monday. We also give indie & self-published authors the same respect we do traditional bestsellers. We think quality writing not only deserves thoughtful, patient analysis, it demands it, regardless of its publishing source. We will often follow our reviews with author interviews, side notes, specials, and our own writing throughout the week. Our weekly lineup looks beyond the NYT Best Seller's list and seeks out fresh voices of debut novelists, exposes brilliant self-published and indie books, and sheds light on authors who haven't made it big... yet.

We invite you to explore an underground world of hidden talent. Along the way we'll give our opinions on other’s works, share our experiences, and maybe even spin a yarn or two. You can show your support by subscribing and commenting. You're welcome to like us on Facebook for events outside the blog, or follow us on Twitter.

Remember, every Monday we post a new review!

A Brief History of the Underground

The Underground was started by a teacher, a sailor, a pilot and an executive... four people who could have only met on the internet. We encountered each other in 2010 on an online writing group called Review Fuse. We were all working hard finishing novels-in-progress and found that we enjoyed each other’s work and appreciated each other’s feedback. We created a group within Review Fuse where we could exclusively review each other’s novels. Despite the fact that we were working in completely different genres, we got along well as a team and, over almost a year, provided invaluable advice and support for each other. As time went on and our novels neared completion, we decided to take on a new project, and put our well-practiced reviewing skills to work. We decided to start a blog.

Thus, Underground Book Reviews was born.
