I LOVED Spirit of Lost Angels! Liza Perrat is an outstanding story teller. Her passion for historical fiction is evident in her research for the book.

Authors, use this opportunity to promote your book without feeling like you’re trying to sell it. Don’t worry about the numbers you’re going up against in the contest. The point of this is to get your book noticed, by friends, family, and acquaintances.
I have been pounding the payment, giving away free posters, and free eBooks asking people to vote for my book, Carmenia Knights. I’ve spent over $500 dollars on posters and giveaways in order to get the votes I have. Hours have been spent, but hopefully this will one day be worth it.
I am an introvert that hates selling. But this contest allows me to talk about the book while not asking people to put up their money for it. Yeah it is costing me a lot, and I am giving away sales, but hopefully my book will spread by word of mouth.
Good luck to all the Authors involved.

My friend is in this comp, so I thought I'd share my thoughts - I'm a programmer. How fair is the comp? Is it easy to rig? I just don't understand how someone can join this comp one day and have 500 votes almost the next. A trickle of votes each day is hard enough to get even when you are campaigning hard on facebook for your mates. But 100 at a time? 300? Something is rotten in the State of Denmark. ;)

I love how I am being accused of somehow cheating--by someone who doesn’t even give a name--when I have been killing myself, spending lots of money for promotions, and getting out there and working for the votes. This is crap! But I have nothing to hide. I have told people exactly what I’ve been doing. Social media has not worked for me. So I have taken to the streets, giving away promotional stuff along with my ebook for votes.
So this “programmer”/“friend of a contestant” why don’t you come forward. (Who are you? Who is your friend in the comp?) How would this be hacked? You say you are a programmer, yet don’t give a single example of how I would somehow hack this thing. Aren’t there logs? Isn’t there some way of verifying this? Or are you just another troll. I have put forward what I have done for my votes. I have no problem trying to help people get the word of their books out there. But for the moderator to allow this comment out is provoking a fight.

I agree with whistleblower. Something doesn't look right with the Carmenia Knights vote at 535 in a matter of days. I think Underground Book Reviews needs to have a chat with Polldaddy and see if the votes are legitimate or whether someones found a way around the ip addresses.

Dear Whistle Blower,

I appreciate your concern. You are right, the contest is not 100% hacker-proof. If you would like to challenge a specific participant, please contact us through our contact form and we will investigate the problem to the best of our ability (which is limited). We apologize in advance if someone found a way through the system.

Please note: None of our contestants paid to enter, and there is no monetary prize. The purpose of the contest is to generate support for self-published authors and we hope our contestants will find camaraderie, not animosity, as the contest progresses. If we see enough interest in this competition to repeat it in the years to come, we will investigate ways to eliminate any loopholes in the voting system.

Thank you for visiting Underground Book Reviews, and for supporting independent and self-published authors!

Just finished reading Dead Broken and highly recommend it. If you enjoy reading murder/thriller/suspense then this book is for you. Gerard has managed to write a book that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The main character tugs at your heart strings with his love for his family yet you also want to shake him to stop him going down a route that will lead him astray. There are some dark disturbing moments throughout the book as well as some light moments. Be prepared to be drawn into a world that keeps you wanting more yet having you checking shadows in the dead of night.
